General Manager

The Topeka Metropolitan Transit Authority is seeking a General Manager to oversee all functions of the public transit agency with an annual operating budget of $10 million and 98 employees. The General Manager will provide overall leadership and management while adhering to the policies and directions of the Board of Directors, as well as all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Business Management, Public Administration, Planning, Transportation, or related field preferred. A combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Five (5) years of experience in a senior-management position is required. 
  • Candidate should demonstrate the ability to lead effectively and to direct subordinate management and support staff and develop public support for the agency.
  • Candidate should demonstrate experience in budget development and administration, grant application and administration, project planning and management, labor relations, and contract development.
  • Candidate must possess excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communications skills, and a valid driver’s license. Occasional travel may be required.

Salary Range:

$90,000 – $150,000

  • Ability to obtain a KS CDL with air brake and passenger endorsements within two weeks of hire date.

  • 21 years of age with a HS diploma/GED.

Camp Metro Director and Counselors

Topeka Metro is currently seeking motivated, fun-loving college students or high school graduates to be Director and Counselors for Camp Metro this summer! This position offers up to twenty hours per week from April 2019 – August 2019.

Responsibilities include presenting “How-to-Ride” presentations to the public, coordinating bus schedules for community camps, as well as other child related activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Organizational and outreach skills
  • Experience, desire, and ability to work with children
  • Ability to teach and lead group activities
  • Good character, integrity, and adaptability
  • Possess enthusiasm, a sense of humor, patience, and self-control
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma and some college
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work various hours Monday – Saturday

  • Provide proof reading and fact-finding assistance
  • May assist with photography or videography

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be currently enrolled in a college degree program related to marketing, journalism, public relations, communications or a similar field of study
  • Familiar with marketing, advertising or branding principles and techniques
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with co-workers
  • Dynamic written and verbal communication and ability to work with the public
  • Preference for AP style writing, although not required
  • Experience with social media promotion
  • Knowledge of all or some of the following: techniques in print, photography, or video and audio production
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite programs, as well as marketing software such as Constant Contact or MailChimp is preferred, but not mandatory
  • Ability to work on numerous projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
