Transit Planner I (Part-time)

This position is intended to introduce a current urban planning student to the professional practice of transit operations planning and management.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Researching and developing Planning Reports for new projects related to service changes, bus and bus stop technology, transit best practices, policy proposals, etc.
  • Public, business, and public service organization outreach
  • Updating online services to reflect service changes
  • Maintaining database of bus stop locations and amenities
  • Fixed route and paratransit service and performance analysis
  • City site planning review processes
  • Demographic analysis
  • Short- and long-range planning processes
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite with a strong aptitude in Excel spreadsheets.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data regarding ridership, demographics,traffic surveys, maps, costs, and revenues.
  • Ability to utilize GIS software such as ArcView and ArcMap.
  • Independently manage project elements of a multi-step process for transit amenity construction process including: site selection, project scope, site design and engineering, city regulation and department approvals, public and adjacent property owner outreach, and construction contract bid/award.
  • Current urban planning student or recent graduate with Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in urban and/or transportation planning or closely related field.

Custodian

Topeka Metro is accepting applications for a part-time and full-time custodian to clean facilities and bus shelters.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Knowledge of cleaning supplies, equipment and methods
• Ability to read and follow label directions on cleaning products
• Ability to work in inclement weather conditions
• Must be able to perform daily assigned tasks independently without close supervision
• Ability to complete work within the scope of proper time standards
• Ability to use independent judgment in routine and non-routine situations
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor and other staff members
• Valid KS Driver’s License
• Previous custodial experience preferred

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma/GED, pass a background check, drug screen and functional employment test.

The full-time position pays $12.72/hr. Topeka Metro is a KPERS employer and offers a great benefit package.
